The Core Conductors programis designed for musicians aspiring to a career conducting orchestras around the world. While there is no official age limit for entry to the program, the majority of applicants are typically under 30 years old. Live auditions are held in Australia and New Zealand, with Christopher Seaman making the final selection for the program. From 2012 international applicants are invited to apply for a limited number of places in the Core program.

Most modules involve work with a soloist as well as major symphonic repertoire. Modules are generally five days long, and conductors work with pianists and an ensemble as well as the professional orchestra.
